Facts on Teen Pregnancy

The United States has the highest pregnancy rate of the world. About half of teen ages 15 - 19 become pregnant. Babies born by teen have a higher risk of having health problems such as being premature, mental retardation and illness, and more. Pregnant teens have a higher risk of miscarrying. Pregnant teens are less likely to complete high school. Teens who have a strong relationship with their parent are less likely to have sex at an early age. A teen who is sexually active and does not use protection has a 90% chance of getting pregnant. About half of teens use protection and only about 20% use birth control. Birth control does not always work like if you take it irregularly.
